Hmm ... Calculators if you don’t mind. Some folk take them really seriously - in fact I know one collector who spent literally thousands collecting them. My interest is more ‘representative sample’ than ‘hard core’. The older Commodores were nice, though. It’s testament to the times - late 1970’s / early 1980’s mainly - that they were presented the way they were. Having a calculator was not quite elitist, but certainly on the way there.
The actual finish of many of these early models reflected the high price they were at the time: high quality plastics, metal plate inserts, elaborate instructions, and indeed very heavily designed packaging. This was, after all, the age when digital watches were a big deal, not to mention cassette recorders!
Commodore certainly took to calculators with gusto, which perhaps is not so surprising really. Even a modern super - computer is only really a calculator after all - albeit a very sophisticated one!
