I have a musician friend who never stops talking Atari. Like many kids of the 1980’s, I wanted ( but didn’t get - bad childhood ) a 2600 Woody. In adulthood, I’m certainly making up for it! The games are mostly a bit of a let - down: some things are rooted in their time.
The 2600 certainly was a revolutionary machine in it’s time, considering what was around in 1977. The more contemporary ST - that which my friend keeps talking about - was innovative not least in terms of having a MIDI port. In terms of looks ... well, let’s skip that!
My favourite of the whole lot is the last of the Atari’s: The 1993 Jaguar. What a pity that nothing followed it: the Jag was the last Atari console made. Playing ‘Doom’ on the Atari Jaguar today is still a great thrill. Will the same be true of today’s consoles 15 years + into the future?
